TC - Drum and Bass Producer Interview

April 2003

Interview with drum and bass producer TC.

BS1 Records

BS1 Records

How old are you?

21

How did you get into the drum and bass scene?

I guess I have been listening to drum and bass for most of my life but what really got me into drum and bass was going and listening to it in clubs. Heavy!

What did you do before you started djing/producing music?

School.

How long have you been producing music?

About seven years.

What are your musical influences?

I have a lot of musical influences, too many to list here.

What software / equipment do you use to produce your music?

How long do you spend in the studio a week (on average)?

I spend most of my time in the studio, unless it's sunny.

I do a bit of music for T.V. to keep the bank manager happy and I like doing R'n'B tunes in my spare time.

TC

Do you currently produce any other music except for drum and bass?

I do a bit of music for T.V. to keep the bank manager happy and I like doing R'n'B tunes in my spare time.

How many tracks have you had released so far and what labels have you been releasing your material on?

I have currently had two releases on BS1 Records

What as the feedback about your music been like so far?

Good, I have had reviews in IDJ and Knowledge Magazine and everyone I have played it to seems to like it.

Your next release is out in May on BS1 Records, can you tell us a little bit about it?

It's heavy. Nice cut. The A side is "Getcha Some More" nice reliable dance floor tune for the djs with heavy bass and a bit of es2 synth thrown in for good measure.

The other side "Make A Little Space" is even more of a DJ tune… on a summer tip, with the guitar, vocals by Lindsay B recorded at BS1.

Yourself and most of the BS1 crew are based in Bristol, what is the scene like there at the moment?

Really lively, there are lots of people working hard to get good music out in Bristol.

What recent releases on the drum and bass scene are you rating at the moment?

I like that T-Minus 10 tune by Distorted Minds. The Fresh and Bad Company stuff is sounding heavy.

Which other producers / artists would you most like to work with?

Hmmm… Liam Howlett from The Prodigy.

Do you have a favourite tune of all time?

About 10 of them.

Is there any one tune you would really like to remix?

I would really like to remix some R'n'B if I ever get the chance.

How often do you get out clubbing?

Once or twice a week.

Do you have a favourite event or club night?

Drive By - In my opinion the best drum and bass night in Bristol, nice vibe.

The Thekla night club is great, it's a boat moored on the dockside in town 400 capacity and good PA.

What are your plans for the future?

To make as much good music as I can.
